Dear Mama, Don’t enjoy every moment…enjoy ONE.

Dear Mama,

Don’t enjoy every moment. Instead, find one moment a day to cherish.

I want to level with you: It’s hard to let the crumbs be, the future be, the to-do list be, the wrestling with demons just BE.

It’s hard to be still. It’s hard to be present. I wish it wasn’t, but it is.

This season is chaotic and busy. There is clutter, there is noise (always), there is the laying down of your own needs so often, sometimes you forget you have them. There are clothes to wash (and dry before they mold) (and who are we kidding, rewash when they do mold). There are meals to make and to clean uneaten off the floor. There are tantrums and bickering to navigate. There is the worrying and overthinking. There is the effort to keep your sanity intact (which is pretty hard sometimes). There are everyday stresses (finances, sex, jobs, who is right about whether a fan is nice next to the bed).

It is normal to feel like you’re caught up in a whirlwind.

YOU ARE caught up in a whirlwind.

Just find one moment. Just find one moment each day to stop and feel their tiny fingers, or to press your face against a ponytail that smells of sunshine and wild whimsy. Just find one moment to listen to the off key tune from your seven-year-old lost in her own world.

Find one moment and drink it in for all you’re worth.

It doesn’t matter if it’s two minutes or three hours.

It’s OKAY if it’s short. (Say that out loud to yourself if you need to.)

Then take those moments and bottle them up in a jar to save in your heart forever.

And as for the rest, carry on champion. You are a s-hero.

I know you don’t want to miss this. I know you don’t want to miss these beautiful, exhausting days. I also know, there is a lot of time you simply have to survive and live to see another day.

That is the truth.

Somedays maybe you can carve out more time and more moments, but even the one, even the two minutes, they matter. They are a gift you can give even when the world and your heart and your house feel upside-down and crazy.

They are a gift for them, but also, they are a gift for you. They will help you remember the magical reasons you do all this, I promise.

You are amazing, don’t forget that.

    So good. So true.

  2. You are remarkable! It is not often enough mommas speak the truth and it’s a shame because we then feel alone. You offer light in a sometimes dark place we mommas fall into. Thank you!

  3. Spot on. Thank you! ❤️

  4. So true!!
